Pakistani rights of U.K residency?

I do hope no-one will consider this question in any way racist,but I admit my ignorance on the subject,which is why I hope some contributor can enlighten me. My question is (I may well be wrong) About 1948 the Indian sub-continent became a part of the Empire so therefore all Indian citizens henceforth had the right to become British citizens and settle in the U.K. ad infinitum.Was Pakistan ever a part of the U.K? and if so have Pakistani citizens have the same rights of abode in the U.K. and if so what is the name of the Treaty that was made in to law and when?

Only two categories of people have an automatic right of abode in the UK. They are British citizens and people who were either British subjects or Commonwealth citizens on 31st December 1982 (and whose status has not changed since then). Pakistan was not a member of the Commonwealth at that time.
