Roughly, how many calories would a 4 mile (flat walk, we're talking about Norfolk here) burn off, walking at about 4mph?

I don't know how long it took, as we did it a bit at a time. We had to walk 1/4 mile to the bus stop near my friends house and another when we got back. Walking to the college was 3/4 of a mile, we then walked that far back into town. Walking round town must have been 1/2 a mile (lots of shops over a large area), (we got the car to the college the second time) but we then had to walk just over a mile to the right bus stop) so we walked roughly 4 miles, slightly quicker than i normally do, so probably 4mph.

Plus i had to walk aprt of the way home from my friends house. Her mum dropped me off at her work place, which is about 1/4 walk from mine (if you know the shortcuts.)
if you walked 4 miles at 4 mph, i would guess it took you about an hour :)
Question Author
Probably but I weren't looking at the time, but that would be about right, meaning it was about 4mph.
right then - put it into the calculator makes about 350 calories burnt

Now, your q has been answered so no more info please
walking at 4 mph an hour is bloody fast mind. You sure you walked around the shops that quickly???? Your weight counts in it too and you actually burn more calories walking at a slower speed but that doesnt do as much for your muscles.
Question Author
I thought 3/4 was normall walking speed. Walking round the shops would have been slower and thinking about it, in total it probably did take longer.
Question Author
That's why i was slightly confused at it taking an hour, probably nearly 2, but 2mph is quite slow, so probably 3mph thinking about it.
Oh Lord..... I'm in the Twilight Zone.....
