There was a hardback first edition of Life The Universe And Everything on ebay recently, can anyone tell me how much it sold for or a way I can find out for myself?

That's great but, unless you had a watch set prior to EOA, or you were the succesful purchaser, then you have no reference to the sold item, plus no way of searching for it as their search only covers items that haven't sold yet. My advice is contact ebay directly to get them to search their archives, if you're really desparate for the answer (logon to ebay, hit "Questions" then hit "ask a question" for an online request form)
It's OK, it was within the 30 days. It turns out there's a link to "Completed Items", through which I found two recent first editions - the first went for around 155 and the second for 128. I passed up a copy in a "3 books for a pound" box at a car boot sale a few weeks ago, and didn't realise what it was until I saw a picture on the web. I think that if the auctioned copies had gone for more than 200, I'd have been immensely miffed, but I can just about cope with passing on a 128 book. Even at 33 and a third pence.
