Making a Will on-line or other cheaper ways...

Can anybody recommend a cheap way of the above as I object to giving a solicitor a few hundred quid for signing a few papers sat behind his desk!

Any Will made by a solicitor or otherwise can be contested. Smiths sell over the counter Wills.

you can download a smiths will too. have to say though that the solicitor who did ours was very helpful and came up with stuff we hadn't thought about.

WH Smith sell a Last will and Testament pack for £17.99. In that you get all the legal info simply explained plus a free years storage with a soliciotor,

I was charged £75 for mine by a solicitor. That's not a lot to pay for the peace of mind of knowing that what you have will go where you want when you're gone.
It's true, as jaydah said, that any will can be contested. But whoever contests a will drawn up by a solicitor probably has less chance of winning than if they were contesting a 'DIY will'.

you can do your own will on your computer and print it off. as long as you get it witnessed it's as legal as any that you pay for. our family have all done it this way, and we've had three in the last few years which we've had to use, all with no problem.

We used a Lawpack will from Staples. You get lots of notes about how to use to correctly as well. I wouldn`t use it if the estate was complicated (property abroad, money in trust to kids everywhere etc) but for a straightforward will, it was fine.

Somehow 'over the counter' and 'Barclays Bank' don't sound right going together.

Methinks she filled in a questionnaire and Barclays made a proper will from it. Hardly DIY, especially with Barclays fees.
