I recently filled in a Mori Poll and some questions were misleading in as much as so many questions couldn't be given simple answers.
In my coffee group only one person considered themselves religious. He was a Creationist.
The rest spoke and acted like atheists but ticked the C of E box automatically when asked ..
I've no doubt this applies to other faiths .
I ticked the box ' None ' as I don't believe in any faith but my basic values are still those of our culture which is a Christian country.
This over simplicity applied to most of the other questions. So these polls appear to have a rather limited value or do they ?

Not much use with religion, I agree because no one really thinks about that when tickiing the CofE box etc but generally the polls can be used to extrapolate nationwide feeling fairly accurately on a myriad of subjects.
Questionairs and polls can be geared towards the answer you want to hear.

It rather reminds me of the polls in NI. Do you want the fighting to continue or Vote (sorry about this but I just don't know how to spell) shin fain?

It was not a real choice because who in there right mind would vote to carry on fighting.

\it should have been a vote to stay within British rule or not.
But they are surprisingly accurate.

They nearly always correctly predict the ootcome of the Election ... even correctly predicting a hung Parliament last year.
depends exactly what the question is, and what the answers are used to prove. The innent of the survey might just be to find out what religion people identify themselves with, rather than their specific beliefs on reincarnation or clerical celibacy.
