One of those I can never work out the object in the clue (in this case "grouse" or "got bigger")

I'd agree, it'staken me a long time to get used to these type of clues too, and still get the odd one wrong.
The wasy I see this one the 'people say' in front of 'grouse' indicates that groan would be the 'sounds like' word, so the answer is 'grown'.

No, I don't believe in keeping players that want to go, and I have to accept he has to think of his career. Having said that I do feel quite smug that he hasn't scored for Chelsea yet (and curse Fulham for missing that penalty last night!).
