I've been quoted £250 to have the cambelt and tensioner changed as well as the water pump on a 2003 VW Golf. All genuine VW parts. Does that sound a reasonable price for the work being done?
sounds ok , cambelts are expensive to change , you could ring around for
some other quotes though & dont forget there may be VAT on top at a
whopping 20% .
Hi, I just bought a 2000 Golf mk4 and the first thing I did was what you intend to do . My total bill was £297 this was done in the south west of England. hope this helps. ps this was the cheapest quote I got after shopping around for a few days.
There won't be any vat involved, it's a cash job and I know the mechanic can be trusted to do a good job. I had about £200 in mind but just wanted to get an idea if others thought that was a good price.
Hi Milly, about a Fiver at the most, I understand your cost but don't CUT COSTS by putting the old one back, it will have to be removed in any case when the job is done so it's no extra labour.
Special offer price here for a cam belt change on a '06 Vectra CDTI was €400 at the Opel garage. I got the bits myself which included the water pump (recommended change) for €252 and my mechanic (who I trust a million times more than the main dealer) did the work for me for €100 but he did nearly have to take the back bumper off to get to the timing belt, such is the way things are crammed in on these modern cars.
I had a bad experience of the main dealer when my car was in having warranty work done. I wouldn't let them loose now on my lawnmower. But my pal the mechanic in the smithy takes his time and does a proper job. I just never get a VAT receipt from him.
