Hi, my sister is classed as deaf (severe hearing loss), wears aids etc. She is expecting a baby in jan and we were wondering if there was such a device to help her know when baby is crying, she has a partnr but obviously he wont be there all the time. Does anybody know of anything and would she be entitled to help towards costs? i havent emailed deaf association but thats next stop. thanks

i don't know of such a device but you can get video baby monitors which would do the job just as well i reckon - she could look to see if the baby is crying. She will be able to get child benefit to help towards the cost
yes, my neighbours had sound activated flashing lights/crying alarm and many other aids!

You just may have something there. Why not try speaking to the people who make phones for the deaf. The technology should be around. The problem would be differentiating between a baby crying and another loud sound...interesting. There are dogs who help deaf people who might be able to help in this situation...
Oops! RNID is now "Action on hearing loss".
