I've done this twice and both times the cake centre has come out liquidy. This doesn't seem to bother anybody but is this normal?

turn the oven down and cook it a bit longer, don,t cook the apples first either just slice them and put the sugar on

Thank you. Will try doing both. My Mum's Eve's puddings always came out well baked so I knew i was doing something wrong but on both occasions my guests (french) really liked this undercooked part mixed with the apples!
