What will the local council say or ask if I tell them I no longer need housing benefit.Or will the just accept it?

Just tell them that as of 'the umpeenth of the wotist' your circumstances will have changed and you no longer wish to claim.

They 'may' ask why, but that is usually just to confirm that you will be ineligible and you haven't made a mistake as to your entitlement.
