My renault dealer says my dog bone mounting on my 53 plate Scenic is 70% gone? and needs replacing soon. What is this - he said it was something to do with the engine flexing; the engine does not seem to move when I accellerate and brake.

Is it an expensive job. I cannot do anything on the car as I am disabled.

Thanks everyone.

It's an engine stabilizer.

Get a quote from someone other than a renault dealer though

The one in Birmingham told my Ex she needed a new engine and new gearbox for her Vel satis... at an estimated cost of £12,000 there was a blocked coolant pipe....£68
Dont touch Reanult main dealers unless you have to

About ten years ago red light on dashboard 2 year old Renault Megane 2 litre
100 miles from home called AA out, it was the gearbox warning light, sent me to Renault in Salisbury.

after inspection told i needed a new auto gearbox, cost 2400 + labour

they also said gearbox oil was low and charged me £60 for inspection and for topping up oil to get me home, and said the gearbox has a "get you home mode" which limits speed etc but would do the job.

Next day got in car and red light didnt come on and car was performing normally........turns out nothing wrong with gearbox, just low auto oil level, 33,000 miles later same red light , i topped it up and light goes out.

Renault key stopped working , went to local main dealer, wanted about £130 to replace and sort it out.
Used spare and mean while took key apart, turned out the red led transmitter had become unsoldered, cost to resolder £0 !
I had a camshaft seizure on my old Rover SD1, Local Rover dealer said it would be £2000 for a new engine. £70 lighter (for parts) and 2 weeks later I had it running again and it went on for another 70,000 miles before it was scrapped.

Thanks dodger
Glad to help Moggie.

This link is for 2003 Scenic engine mounts. I think the one you need is the lower one.

If your Scenic is the earlier 2003 model, ie, the Scenic 1 Phase 2 model. Then this is the link.

Either one they're not too expensive and shouldn't take long to fit. Should be a DIY job if you know someone used to working on engines.
Why do people take their cars to the dealers? you will find that the ADVICE given to you is to go to the dealers, providing the garage is VAT Reg, uses all the genuine Oil / oil filter / air filter / Fuel Filter, the warranty has to stand. you must have too much money people.
I think he means wish bone
Not so Manjo. The engine mounting resembles a dogs bone and that's what it's informally knows as.
Manjo, some people are so gullible I'm sure if a dealers mechanic said that the car wanted a shovel of coal in the engine, some will go and look for it.

Thanks again dodger - yes it is Mark 1 Phase 2. Found the part. Based on this might try a local garage for a price to fit.
Regards
I hope you get it done at a reasonable price Moggie.

My Scenic 1 Phase 2 is 3 years older than yours, I hope my "dog bone" doesn't need replacing soon.
