just looking at Tilly's premium bond thread and it occurred to me, my parents did not have a bank account whilst we were kids and only opened one in 1977 when they inherited from my grandmothers, both widowed grandmothers died that year and their respective houses were sold, my parents had been married 27 years by then, but had never needed a bank. Seems odd to think it now, but they just didn't need one.

dotty I never got a credit card until I was well into my 40's. I only got one then for online shopping........
I don't remember my Mum & Dad having a bank account either, they didn't have a lot and there were four children. Only Dad worked and tipped his wage every Friday. Me and OH opened our bank account in 1958 when we got engaged, we still have the same bank. I didn't get a bank card until the eighties.

My sister went to work for the Midland bank after the lower 6th and i opened an account there, must have been about 1975 I think. Didn;t really use it til 1977 though when I took a salaried job with Broardbents of Southport and they paid our wages into the bank every month.
