silver cutlery

i was at a dog show yesterday and there was a couple of bric a brac stalls,i bought 4 sets of cutlery ,two had lettle spoons and tongs,other was all knives,and various other things,i got them all for £10.i would like to get them valued looking to auction,they are 100 years old and still in original boxes,they're lovely,what should my first steps be ????

Try an auctioneer. They sometimes give free valuations. There's one in Ilkley that certainly does.

if they are solid, silver the weight should give an indication of the value, sadly thats how most cutlery is valued now.

It would be worth having a look at the hallmarks to see who they are made by. Some makers are more collectible than others. For a good maker, the weight of the silver doesn't matter so much if it is a good maker and the hallmark is nice and clear.
