If the English Baccalaureate had gone ahead, job application forms would soon have been asking "Have you obtained the English Baccalaureate or equivalent?".
To lawfully answer 'Yes', you'd need to have O-levels (at any grade), CSE (at Grade 1 only) or GCSEs (at grades A to C only) in ALL of the following 5 subjects areas:
Maths
English
A 'pure' Science subject (such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology)
A modern language
Either History or Geography.
So how many of you could lawfully answer 'Yes'. I couldn't!

I started off as a junior receptionist and taught myself to type and do speed writing as I was inspired by the typing pool there. I worked my way up to audio typist. Went to college to do bookeeeping which I then progressed to in my career until 1980 when my son was born. I then did a lot of cleaning jobs (good ones though) and realised I could do more, so back to college again and got to level 3 in Catering and Hospitality which Ive done ever since one way or another, being a cook in a care home for 3 years. Ive only ever been out of work for about 3 months in all my working life of 46 years (so far)
