I accept it`s easy to score points in a game of rugby union. I mean, you`ve only got to stand in the wrong place and you can concede a penalty. Does anyone know though of any top flight game that ended scoreless?
which give these possibilities:-
- Gala v Heriots (?) in the scottish 1st division in the mid 90's.
- a leinster final
- Ireland and Scotland played out 3 0-0 draws before 1901
- Tonga played Fiji in a 3-match series during 1924. They won the first match 9-6, lost the second 14-3 and drew the decider 0-0.
- Scotland v New Zealand in 1963 (possibly)
the laws are constantly being tinkered with to encourage more scoring but up until 1980 or so, low scores were the norm, more like football than basketball.
'Conceding a penalty', as such, is not the same easy points in rugby as it generally is in football...except when England reaches a penalty shoot-out, obviously! A team may win a dozen penalties and score from none of them if they're all inside their own 22, say.
