The question is whodunnit. Russians think the west have no proof either way.

I can understand but do not condone the Russians stance with Syria...after all, they have been supplying the tyrant Assad with weapons for years, as they did his ghastly father before him. So, par for the course.
What I find puzzling however, is why China is playing hard ball as well. My knowledge of China and its politics is woefully inadequate, so is there any China-watchers here on AB that can explain why they are voting the way they they do ? Syria is far from being a Communist country. Is Syria supplying oil to China for instance ?

As you seem to have some sort of devine insight that the rest of the world dont have perhaps you should be there contributing? Just what proof do you base this on?
I too suspect that Asad has done this, but I also have a nagging doubt that the other side could be quite capable of either doing it or setting it up to get the West to sort out Asad for them.
We should keep an open mind until we can be sure of exactly who did what. Ask mr Blair what the consequences of piling in with the wrong information does for you.

YMG and others...I would agree that there is some doubt who perpetrated this atrocity. It could be the rebels or Assad. But there is no doubt that a chemical weapon was used, as the UN will find out later today.
My money is on Assad because he has lots of stocks of chemical weapons and he has the means of getting the stuff into the suburb, by artillery shell.
It would make sense however, to wait until the UN Team have done their checking, before taking any decisive action against Assad.
