Problem With New Browser Updat
4 Answers
I was trying to download files on our shop computer today and it was not allowing me to just open files but only to save them.
Is this likely to be due to our browser being IE8 now?

It's far more likely that Windows has lost the 'file association' which tells it which program should be used to open a particular file type. Save one of the files to your hard drive, then right-click on it. Select 'Open with' and 'Choose program'. (It's important to select 'Choose program', even if you can immediately see the program you want to use in the list which is initially offered to you). Then click on the required program (e.g. 'Adobe Reader', or similar, if it's a PDF file) AND (most importantly) put a tick alongside 'Always open this type of file with this program', before clicking on 'OK'.
Hopefully your computer will then know how to open downloaded files.

I did all that stuff Chris. It is a weekly Excel chart from the charity itself and has, until the last couple of weeks, been opening with no problem. If it were me I would just save it but our shop manager doesn't know how to save files.
I haven't used IE for years and decades so I was hoping that it was a new update. I wonder whether the charity concerned, based in Oxford, have installed a security function on the PCs.
I think that I may go to bed now. I was at the shop this afternoon but my brain wasn't. Trying to do the accounts was 'fun'.
Good night to you and your furry visitor. I have my little 'Merlin Warrior Princess' - stupid and evil with long hair and a short temper.

methyl - webmail - yes but it is (I think) IBM lotus that is used. However as Google seems to have their sticky little paws in everything these days it is possible that it is in there somewhere.
It isn't a problem but it is yet another irritation.
If only I could get some advice on deterring the young lady in my avatar from leaping onto my keyboard whilst I am using it. Typing with her stomping on the keys is - challenging. :-)
