Went shopping to The Range in Shrewsbury yesterday, the staff were getting the Christmas decorations out. Is this the first sighting of the year?

No. Lots of shops round here seem to have got their Christmas decorations/card on display. (I noticed that 'Card Factory' was full of Christmas cards when I went in on the Saturday before last).

Further, someone posted here nearly two months ago to say that seen Christmas cards already on display - in a cathedral!

Christmas decorations/novelties/lights etc. are available all year round - the only reason the shops don't display all year is space.

Last year we went to Fortnum & Mason's huge Christmas display in August. We didn't go this year but I expect it's there again

The Range is notorious. They always have their Christmas decorations (as opposed to Christmas stock, which IMO is acceptable and understandable) up clashing with the Hallowe'en ones (which are no doubt also due up any day now).
What amuses me about these places is that come close of play on Christmas Eve any sign of Christmas (bar the cheapo sell-off Christmas cards) is hastily buried to get everyone in "sale" mode

yes, murray, CostCo have to start their Christmas long before, so that retailers can start theirs now.
