Sony TV

There is a socket on the back of my model KD-28DX59-U which according to the manual is "PCMCIA for future use"

I would like to know what this is for and also can this tv be converted for HD broadcasts?
Unsure where to post this question, have also posted it in
I & T . I did not find the Sony site very helpful, unable to find the model listed.

Any help would be appreciated.

A PCMCIA card (or PC Card as it is sometimes called) are usually fitted to laptop computers. They are about the size of a credit card and very thin.

They can add all sorts of features which a laptop may not have. This includes Bluetooth, Wireless network, more Memory and so on.

Because the TV booklet says "for future use" it is difficult to say, but it may be to add the TV to a wireless network so you can "send" video images from your PC to your TV (but that is a complete guess).

Sony do a memory card in PCMCIA format, so it may be that. See here:

If that model of Sony has an inbuilt Freeview tuner could it be a CAM slot for a card such as TopUp TV ?
