My guess is it was the protected lesser known 'White head' moth. They are one of the worlds rarest moths. Infact it was believed there was one breeding pair left in the northern hemisphere.

These by any chance? http://www.knockoutuk.co.uk/pests/common-clothes-moths.html

Though the size you give is most like a little large.

No those aren't the ones
Why did you kill them ?
errrm dead ones?
Why ever kill them? They're beautiful creatures that do nobody any harm.
Just gently shuffle them outside with a sheet of paper.

We have no idea why even a fraction of animals (including humans) are on this planet, but wouldn't it be amazing if we found that moths helped us in a particular way?
You need to educate yourself Ric.ror

It was Moth Night last night. You were asked to count and identify the moths in you garden and submit them. That's two that won't be included ;-) - just google moth night ( sorry can't do links)
Oh beaten to it by Copacetic
together margo we may save an innocent moths life ;)
I heard something about it on the radio yesterday. I actually can't remember the last time I saw a moth.
I'm with Ric.ror on this one.. we kill moths too... we have carpet moths.. the carpets were professionally treated a few years ago.. but they've come back...in lots of places.. the have completely eaten the pile of the carpet away in lots of places... its confined to downstairs at the mo .... one patch is the size of a dinner plate...and there are lots of new patches appearing now!
crisper i too have suffered that and have a good quality wool carpet ruined in areas of most downstairs rooms. We bought something from amazon that sorted it but they were not moths but rather the carpet beetle which looks like a very small grey and black ladybird. I'd never kill moths or anything else ..except spiders, they get the chop if they come in the house I'm afraid.
Thanks Copacetic, good link.
I'm doing my count tonight.
