Can you have a combined tv/dvd player without having to pay a tv licence if all you are doing is watching dvds on the tv only?

Can you have a combined tv/dvd player without having to pay a tv licence if all you are doing is watching dvds on the tv only? Do the scanners pick up tvs or just tv use? Replies welcome but please no...
