I have had my printer a few years and it has started playing up. The paper feed doesn't always work although it makes all the right noises, the printed paper doesn't always go through. And when it does decide to print something, it takes the paper at an angle and it comes through full of black ink. Is it time to buy a new one or is there anything I can do with this one ?

You could try and clean the rollers??
It many be that small small has dropped into the transport and is causing the paper to misfeed. Give it a shake and listen for anything moving.
By the way, Canon don't make Ixus printers, Ixus is a name for a range of Canon cameras

Sorry Milvus, its a Canon Pixma 2200. Got my camera mixed up with my printer ... Wak how do I clean the rollers ? And would that stop the paper going through straight, and sometimes not going through at all ?
Possibly if the rollers are dirty in places then they could drag the paper in by one corner only and the paper would swivel slightly.
Maybe the following site could help if you search the forum?? or even the Canon help site?

Incidentally, if the printer is a bit old then the internal ink pad, which soaks up the ink after the cleaning process, could soon be full.
The pad in my old Canon (10 years ago) was a piece of 1/2" thick felt which had to be removed, washed, dried and then returned. Very messy!!!
If the printer is stood on it's side the ink will flood out. Don't try it. Much messier!!!!!!!!!
