I went to the cashpoint yesterday. Finished my transaction and the wind blew a tenner out of my hand. Looked everywhere but the wind was so strong it was a waste of time from the start. Very annoying but hey what an you do?

Oh dear, Caran!

Let's hope that the next time you go to the ATM someone else will lose a £20 note, that lands by your feet, meaning that you'll end up in profit ;-)

Definitely don't go back to a cash point yourself tomorrow though, as the BBC weather site is forecasting winds above 40mph (and closer to 50mph at times) between 8am and 7pm for your area.
blame Reg Varney!

Is there a bank with cashpoints inside?
^^^ The ones inside banks are handy when one is feeling rich, Jno. For example, Barclays personal customers can only withdraw a maximum of £300 per day from external cash machines but the limit for their internal machines is £2000. (I found that out when I needed cash to buy a car a few months ago. The only extra security question was that the machine required me to type in my date of birth).

For anyone who doesn't understand your Reg Varney reference:
^^^ I remember when the first Barclays ATMs were introduced in Sheffield. There were no plastic cards in those days. Each withdrawal needed a non-reusable punch card, which only gave £10 back. So, for example, to withdraw £30 one had to make three separate withdrawals.

The punch cards were posted out from Barclays HQ with just 5 in an envelope, together with a slip which had to be posted back to Barclays to place an order for the next 5 cards. (In practice that meant posting the slip off as soon as one received the pack of 5 cards, in the hope that one wouldn't run out of cash before the next pack arrived).
Stop using cash. Problem solved.
