I am not terrified . I want the RIGHT to work and live in any part of the EU I choose. I want it as a right not as a concession! Brexit will take away what I now have as a 'right'.
Yes, concessions will be made, travel will continue, but as a concession NOT as a 'right' !
You want it as a 'right' and not as a concession. You might have to say 'tough' and accept a concession. A small price to pay ... in my opinion.
naomi, your answers are looking xenophobic !
Eddie, really? I can live with that. Another small price to pay.
Concessions can be taken away, part of the definition of a concession that it is removable. Rights should NEVER be taken away once earned!
British firms want to employ EU citizens, so a permit system will be introduced. Immigration from the EU will not cease, it will just mean more red tape and costs from British industry.
* for British Industry *
Those rights are not 'earned' - they are bought and we pay very dearly for them - and not only in monetary terms. You're terrified of letting go of the apron strings. Man up for goodness sake!!
^That was to Eddie.

Bedtime. Night all.
Why did I bother to vote?
I am not sure
Eddie's posts are complete nonsense. How on earth do people manage to formulate absurd ideas? You must be an EU citizen for this job. What complete cobblers.
^ I am postulating that if there is an option for UK citizens to retain their status as EU citizens in a post Brexit UK, that status may very well prove to be an advantage.
Those with EU citizenship (in addition to UK citizenship) will have the right to live , work and travel freely anywhere in the EU without any form of concession, permit or arrangement. Those who choose to have only UK citizenship will not have that right. Yes, they will be able to travel but it will be in the form of a concession rather than a right. There is a very important difference!
Question Author
surely the EU will not allow citizenship unless you live in the EU so will that not entail moving across the channel?
Read your own link TTT
The proposal is to let UK citizens retain their EU citizenship after the UK has left. No moving just the RIGHT to live travel and work anywhere in the EU.
Those like you, who reject the option of 'Dual' UK/EU citizenship will lose the RIGHT of totally unrestricted access to the EU.
All of us will still be UK citizens with the rights to live here, BUT those who also take the option of EU citizenship will have additional rights.
It will in effect create two classes of UK citizen , those with full EU rights in addition to their UK rights and those with UK rights only!
Question Author
yes I understand eddie, but I don't believe it. So we can opt for EU citizenship without actually living there? Is there a precedent anywhere in the world for this? What concession would they want in return?
Question Author
so will they have a different passport or what? Will there be a pan EU passport? I don't see how it can work.
Why are you asking about concessions? The UK would be out the EU and you'd not be paying, I thought you weren't bothered about the deal as long as we were out the EU?
Question Author
I'm trying to understand what is being offered i don't care about concessions personally as I think you probably realise TCL. I just want to comprehend what mischief is being concocted here.
It has not happened yet just a proposal. There is no precedent for it this will be a unique situation. No one knows what type of passport will be issued, at the moment there are no 'EU' passports. I assume those who opt of EU citizenship will get the same passports we have now, a UK passport but with the EU logo as well. Those who choose to remain as UK only will have to get a new type of passport with no EU logo or travel rights.
No mischief, remember 48% voted to stay in the EU and are facing losing their rights of unlimited unrestricted access to the entire EU. This is a way for them to retain those rights!
Again this has never been done before, we are 'flying blind'.
I don't see what you have to complain about, if you don't want to remain in the EU you just decide not to take the option of EU citizenship.
I remember pointing out before the Referendum, that is we were to vote out, that The EU would still be there for all who wanted to embrace it. But if we voted to stay in that Great Britain would be gone forever. No one has yet indicated an overwhelming desire to move to the promised land. When they do, we will have ample space and work opportunities for those who wish to be British first and foremost. Remind us do Eddie, what part of your current employment demands that you are "free" to travel at will to the continent.
