Why has the News section and the ChatterBank section got a welcoming message and a pretty picture, when it seems other haven't?
Oh dear the pretty picture has just vanished while I have been constructing this question.

We've been rolling out the square adverts (MPUs) across the site instead of horizontal adverts for a little while (they've been on every question for the last month or so I think).
Just a bit of the reasoning behind it:
* The ads are usually better
* The ads are worth more/make more money
* We gain a nice editorial area next to the MPU
Making more money means we can invest more into site development, which means we can, hopefully, improve the site for everyone.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

"you still have not addressed the fact that the news section and the ChatterBank section have a welcome message but none of the others have."
As Chuck says, various sections have welcomes, other have disclaimers. I'd like to use the "welcome" space for orientation and section specific rules. For example, I think it is helpful for a new user to know that posting a story in News without a link to a news item impedes debate.
It's something which will roll out to the whole site eventually.

Obviously your rules go unheeded ED.
I refer of course to Boo's personal and offensive post, there are no need for such remarks when one as asked a perfectly legitimate question.

AOg - referring your reference to Boo's 'personal and offensive post' -
"What a load of piffle you do spew out." is your response to another poster on another thread - nothing light-hearted about that is there?
If you do not wish to be on the end of posts which you perceive as personally offensive, then you should refrain from issuing the same - lest you be thought of as a hypocrite.
Hoist by your own petard I believe is the expression.
