I've been trying to get an avatar but gravatar wouldn't accept my user name of 'nodger'. When I emailed to ask why I was told that 'nodger' was in use by another user with a different email address to mine. I have only ever used one email address - my current one - so I guess someone else in the cyber world is a nodger. Question is - can I change my user name on here to one acceptable to gravatar? (And if so how?) And if I do, would I be regarded on here as 'new' and have to wait for an avatar anyway?
We discourage people from changing their username once it has been selected. If there is an urgent reason as to why it should be changed (you've used your real name, for example) email the AB Editor with your request.
You don't need to use the same username for Gravatar.
All that matters is that the email address you use for Gravatar is the same as the one you use for AB
What Factor30 said is correct. You can use any username you like on Gravatar, it makes no difference to your avatar on here as long as you use the same email account on both.
Thanks boxtops. I couldn't claim its urgent, but it would be nice to have an avatar; I think people look out for familiar avatars more than user names when surfing. Ah well, I will have to remain jellified and anonymous.
I can't believe I'm the only user to have run into this problem with gravatar.
My gravatar username is nothing like Prudie. Like you I had to try 3 different ones, all obscure in my opinion, before I came up with one that wasn't already in use.
By the way, I chose Mick-Talbot as best answer cos it really made me laugh (I'm hastily checking back any previous posts for signs of machismo) but I'm ridiculously grateful to everyone for the very prompt and accurate help.
