Maybe I'm missing something that suggests this is a system problem but does all this redness only appear in the browser?

If so, does it still appear when using another browser?

If this is just happening in Firefox were the user profiles deleted when installing the latest version or were they retained? If the latter then backup your bookmarks (and make a note of any other settings that you may have changed deliberately) then uninstall Firefox completely, including the user profiles, before installing the latest version (and then restoring the bookmarks).

what is this lexicon file that freezes both the mse scan and the malware bytes scan?
I have indicated that perhaps I am now out of depth on matters. Consequently, I am thinking of taking a course in 'Double Dutch' to interpret Internet pages such as this :-

yes alston it's a tough one, it's from microsoft and has about 20 odd indidual numbered endings to the same formula or whatever it's called, it's been on my laptop since manufacture and so no idea why these 2 programmes are causing the whole screen to freeze whilst scanning through those particular files
Question Author
ahhhhhhhhhh
Question Author
i've individually scanned each line of the lexicon files with mse, each time (it took a second for each scan) it said no issues BUT as soon as i have finished that, all these red words double underlined appear to have ceased and desisted!! lol
^^ //red words double underlined appear to have ceased and desisted!! //

Are you telling us that matters have been resolved.? Is your computer now fully active.?

I sincerely hope the answers are in the affirmative.

Question Author
well yes all has seemed to return to norm after individually scanning those lexicon files in system32, i haven't tried a full scan with either mse or malware bytes again but those red words have definitely disappeared!
Cheers...I have just poured myself another glass of red plonk and am raising my glass to you. I always admire your persistence to have things right.
