First thing I'd try is logging out (provided you know your password) , clearing your cache and then logging back in.
Then let us know if the problem still occurs

When Shockwave crashes for me I get a message telling me

It won't be to do with shockwave - maybe you're blocking elements of the page?

If you are, you need to allow "gravatar.com" to come through.

Ah, well, if you've not actively blocked anything on the page (i.e. through adblock) then you've probably not blocked it at all.

try CTRL + F5

Have you tried logging off, clearing some parts of the cache and logging back in again? It solves a lot of problems for me.

Recently changed security to F Secure and for some reason it blocked Gravatar.com.Told it to allow it and now all is ok.Avatars back.
