We don't pick up emails in the evening and not everyone is on all the time. Are you really making an argument for this "technicality"?

It's not a matter of being a shrinking violet - I'm far from that - and I don’t have nightmares. I do, however, recognise poor taste when I see it - and the choice of an avatar portraying a disgusting serial paedophile, particularly when it's used solely in an effort to discredit a politician, which it was, is height of poor taste. There are far more intelligent ways to attempt to demonise Mrs Thatcher or anyone else without compromising decent ethical standards or valuable self-respect - but you, it seems, have managed to do both.

Ab Editor, meanwhile may we have so much as a hint why the thread about some people saying that shopkeepers faced 40 lashes for supplying alcohol was pulled? The thread consisted of reasoned debate, much of it on the interpretation of the law, and none of it apparently racist (not that you couldn't pull any racist reply and leave the thread intact). And the story itself was not subject to any legal restrictions, there being no charges or injunctions.

I suspect what upset people wasn't Savile and Maggie (quite a reasonable juxtapostiion, especially since it really happened) - it was just Savile himself. His picture just makes people want to puke. Me too. I can remember what he did without having his face around all the time.

I didn't object or report it, though.

I second Fred's question. I don't really care either way about Jake's avatar, but you pulled one of the best threads on News in ages. It's one of the first times I can remember a thread coming up about Islam that didn't just devolve into a shouting match. Or into another thread about AOG.
