Why? Not really a question, but an observation.

To help AB's anwer questions from other AB's. Please could we ask that when requesting computer assistance that: The Operating System that they are enquiring about eg Windows, Mac or even Linux is clearly identified, followed by the current system in use eg Windows 8 or 7 or XP etc; Mac OS X Lion,Snow Leopard or Mavericks etc, and if Linux the current system in use.
Also, there appears to be considerable confusion, between Browsers and Search Engines. A Broswer simply!! is needed to operate a Search Engine.
Some AB's are stating they are 'semi-virgins' on Computers, and come up with jargon eg 'ehd' in small letters [External Hard Drives]. EMail programmes, if querying them also need to specified, not just say 'My email' is not working - why? Give us the clear facts and we will be pleased to attempt answers to help.

Hi Clivebeca,

We've tried to deal with this before:

But sadly there's not much that can be done - as often those asking for help don't know how to answer those questions initially.
This has already been addressed and dealt with. This link is at the top of the 'Technology' topic.

How to Post Effective Technology Question

I agree with Ed - many of us wouldn't know what goes on inside the computers, it doesn't mean we're not eligible to use them.....
A lot of patience is needed at times to help people with their computer problems at a distance.

It is also difficult to gauge the level of explanation needed so one is neither patronising nor talking 'over their head'.

It can be very satisfying, though, especially if the OP 'gets it' and can avoid or resolve similar problems in the future.

Thanks / Diolch ... Pleased to see that an attempt has been made to address it. OK I accept the previous threads. But as is said "You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink". Pleased to continue to help where I can, and hope that by keeping it simple and pertinent that the AB who posed the question does not think that I/We are undermining them.

Sorry ... But what does answer removed mean? Under My Profile I've got this short message, but also says I've got an answer from edwardfraser973. Can't find it??
It may have been an advert or similar, wouldn't worry too much.
