...get rid of that flashing ad, you know the one I mean, as it completely freezes the screen. Is there no way you can get rid of it?

It is totally spoiling the enjoyment of AB and also cannot scroll up and down when it is on screen, luckily I managed to type this without any freezing.

The ads seem to be targetted from your browsing history or cookies. So not everyone sees the same adverts.
It works like this. (this is just an example). You might have used Google maps to find a bar or restaurant. That info is collected. Then when Google wants to place a food advert, it targets people who have searched for restaurants. So you get delivered the advert. If I have not looked up restaurants but instead looked at German Washing Machines, then I will be sent a completely different advert to you.
There will be some adverts that are targetted at everyone, but those with a more niche demographic will be selected more carefully.

// why is it ONLY on this site //
Because AB must be part of the demographic they want. Google (or whichever ad company AB takes adverts from) will monitor how many hits the adverts get. So they will build up a profile of AB users. If a just-eat.co.uk advert gets lots of hits, then next time they have a similar advert to place they will send it here. If your history suggests you like food, you will see it.
Clever stuff, which is how Google make their £billions.

Ed, there are links to the Ads in my 'What's Going On, (Cot'd)' thread, they freeze everything, you can't even take a screen shot of them, or lift any other information from them. I transferred the links to this thread earlier and the *** Ads had gone when I looked. the original links still work though.
elliemay, I have my brower (Firefox) set to delete my browsing history and cookies as soon as I leave the internet. That may be why I don't get these ads.
If you do this, however, as Gromit says, you may lose some cookies you actually want like instant access to AB or emails. I have to log in every time for these, but I think it's worth it.
