Query For Ab Editor
114 Answers
I posted an entry entitled High Time in the News section recently and have since then certainly not - unless by touching something inadvertently - chosen a 'Best Answer'. However, I now see that one such answer HAS been given that accolade. Since the chosen answer was the second one offered, how on earth would I or anyone else have chosen it as 'best'?
I am not trying to denigrate the answer, as such, but I was never aware that such choices were simply taken out of one's hands. My query, therefore, is: "Are they?"

The original thread which provides the backdrop to this was in the News section 'High Time'. Quizmonster and I have been debating the case for several days. It is a reminder to us all that despite a number of differences in opinion it is possible to have a civil discussion which isn't always the case!
Who knows how long a thread lasts for and whether a 'best answer' comes along very late on. I know you can update it though.

Well, a new day has dawned! I really must thank all of you for your input and hereby award a multiple Best Answer to all who contributed.
Thank you, Ed, for clarifying the position; namely, that a 'surprise' Best Answer only ever comes about as a result of a mis-clicking on someone's part...in the current case, clearly, mine.
Cheers
