Is it possible to have some sort of amendment to site rules that reminds people that revealing the result of a major sporting contest (or even the result or plot of a TV show) in the title or first post of a thread is incredibly antisocial and discouraged on AB?

It's not exactly rocket science to have a title that says, for example, "Murray Match" with an OP that simply says "Spoiler Alert".

Then you reply to your own thread with "Andy still Scottish after he tanks again" or "Andy the Brit rides on" as appropriate.

We've got the Cricket World 20/20 soon and then the Olympics later this year - both in time zones that mean people will want to watch recordings rather than 'live'.

Perhaps a banner saying "don't spoil it for others" over the Sport and/or News sections wouldn't hurt?

A mistake in the heat of excitement I can understand and forgive, Steg..... but to do it knowingly and not care is not nice.......

I could do the same, if I was an unkind person, for Scotland's important matches this summer ... ahhhhhh....... ;-)

Happy to debate it - the example I give above has spoiled the result of the match for anyone on AB waiting to see it later by appearing in Latest Posts (top right of screen).

If the title read...

"Rovers v Untied, Wow!"

Then it has spoilt nothing and those who wanted to could click on and discuss.

I struggle to see how that is a problem - maybe we never will agree.

So you will avoid Twitter, Facebook (other sites are available) and the news as to not know a result, but you won't avoid answerbank?

Why not watch whatever you have recorded before you log on to answerbank?

I think all we're doing is asking people to think before they post - obviously too much of a strain for some.

Fair comment - I would avoid Twitter and FB because on there it is harder to have a debate with your fellow users as one does here and by and large people here are amenable to each other.


If I didn't want the scores equally I wouldn't watch the news and definitely not the sports at the end.

Maybe that is the only way then , people don't log on till gone 11 on a Saturday night and miss interacting with the AB community because some have a driven need to post a title that reveals all.

Posting things that are making out that I'm inferring the extremes of the debate and then saying it's sad has put me off the now so maybes latter.

You don't need to click on it, Ael.......you see it as you look at the main page for something interesting to read or reply to....you can't help seeing it when it's posted in this way....and easy to be posted kindly....x

If I watch the rowing live later this year and something amazing happens that I want to share/discuss I can choose to post it without spoiling it for later viewers...
If, as some want to do, I chose to post it giving all away I'd think I was odd......☺
