Why would your status be changed from Suspended to Banned if you have not been re-instated, and then gone on to infringe the site rules again ?

Because a thread alerted the Ed.

Don't follow you
There was a thread about suspended users. A persons name came up and that persons name is banned now.
Question Author
Still don't follow .

I thought that you would be re-instated after a period of time , following a suspension .
So , why move directly from a suspension , to being banned ?
Maybe the said person was active in a not so nice way behind the scenes or even asked to be banned?

There'll be a reason somewhere.
Question Author
Do you mean , using another user name ?
Not seen the thread but could it be that if a suspended person is known to be using another name to get around the suspension, both names end up being banned? It may be there has been an e-mail or two from the person and the Ed has not taken kindly to them...who knows?
Not everyone is re-instated. Some suspensions are permanent.
A suspension also gives the Ed time to think about what the sanction should be- how long should the suspension last or should it become permanent- and maybe some suspensions get forgotten about until a periodic review takes place or someone reminds the ed
I don't really know the answer and am only thinking of a possibility.

A Moderator Suspends and then the Ed examines the case and considers it is a matter for Banning.

Hans.
yes, that's a possibility, Hans.
A suspension is supposed to be a warning.
If a suspended user rejoins under another name, then the warning hasn't worked a a full ban comes in.
@Gromit...As I am thinking that perhaps you are a Moderator, perhaps you are able to explain how some ABers become 'User Inactive' and then post in Answerbank as if they have never departed. Do they have special permission from the Ed, who I think is able to make a an ABer 'User Inactive' without any comment.

Hans.

Hans.
People go 'user inactive' when they deactivate their account. To get their names back I presume they have to email the Ed.

Sunny Dave And Gness both flounced and went User Inactive.
Both have returned with their original ID's, so obviously it's up to AB Editor, and why not?
He very rarely reactivates them though- don't deactivate unless you're sure.

Gromit - this from the ABSpareditor on another post

//Hello! Just to clarify the having two accounts thing - we prefer it if people only have one active account because if people have more than one it gets confusing when people don't know that they're the same person. So the rule about only having one account does still apply.

If someone is banned or suspended and they create a new account to get around that (and probably continue the argument they were previously having and got suspended/banned for), then the new account will be banned. However, if someone is banned and they create a new account to use and we don't realise it's them for a while because they are being nice and not being a nuisance, then if we do notice we tend to let them keep using the new account if they're not causing trouble.

Just thought I'd clarify because we don't want people posting from multiple accounts!//

So , it would seem that the person i was thinking of is likely to have rejoined , using another name and continued misbehaving - Although i have to say that i did not recognize the tones of this person , under a different username

Sounds a plausible theory.
there are some ABers with a very good nose for such things, Bazile. I'm rather in awe of them, because I can't and I wish I could. They can probably tell what lines Marlowe contributed to a Shakespeare play.
