It is indeed utterly pointless. I've lost count of the times I've provided the only(totally correct) answer to a 'What was the piece of music used in such and such' to never receive acknowledgement, let alone Best Answer.

I think Baldric's right and most badge awards silly as they are have dried up barring the automatic (I presume) ones related to so many years service.

I'm sure the scheme started as a bit of fun. Like all fun it doesn't appeal to all.

Mamyalynne....I thought you were pleased to have a Special Certificate for having exceeded 100,000 Answers, yet both you and Baldric appear to think that most Badge awards are silly. You could be right about some but I would Not agree as regards the Technology section.

Having said that, I am regretting that Badges have fallen by the wayside because I often checked to see if a respondent was 'well up'
in the topic concerned and would cringe when an ABer would reply along the lines of......"Sorry, I can't help you but feel sure that someone will be along shortly with an answer".

Incidentally, on Best Answers, I have qualified for a Silver in Technology but have Not even received a Bronze. However, quite rightly, Buenchico is listed with a Gold.

Perhaps the Ed should be asked to comment on the matter.
