I can’t even respond to the last poster there to ask her to mind her manners. Since there’s no message from the Editorial staff I assume that this has been done on the whim of a mod. Please sort it out, Ed. When discussions are halted in full flow for no apparent reason it becomes a waste of time contributing at all. The Islam thread went the same way … twice!

As far as I'm aware, this post breaks no rules.... but this fairly recent practice really is becoming very frustrating to the more serious posters here, especially if they've taken the time and trouble to research complex issues.
Thanks for your attention.

I either see a contentious post as the following....
a) I warn the offenders they're skating in thin ice (my favourite stance)
b) I'd delete the offending comments (yep, often done too)
c) remove the thread entirely- I'm not overly keen on this and will only do it occasionally, It usually happens when the 'orrible comments are too far/ spread throughout the thread and my pointy finger gets knackered.
I've not used the 'close thread' option, and I personally can't see me doing so in the future, the above 3 options seem to work by and large.
This obviously is my own personal view, and until another Mod or the Ed holds their hands up and tells you why they do it, I guess we'll just have to try to abide by the rules and regs and hope that our threads dont go that way.

B00, //until another Mod or the Ed holds their hands up and tells you why they do it, I guess we'll just have to try to abide by the rules and regs//
Most of the people contributing to these threads do abide by the rules and regs – and those that don't are (sometimes) zapped. There are without doubt, as NoMercy says, instances of biased moderation, but this is not about any of that. It’s about whole threads being closed for no valid reason by people who are very clearly abusing their position. That is what must be addressed. I would suggest a review of the choice of moderators is overdue - and metaphorical bikes provided for some.

Classic example of biased moderation. The one in the link closed, yet this one stays open!
