My question is does the editorial staff review all reports, or only those that have been followed through and the post deleted or the user suspended? Surely if the staff only review those reports that have been acted on, then the system is open to abuse by moderators who will be prepared to ignore reports against their friends.
On a recent thread someone made derogatory comments about how some people report . They could only be privy to this information by being told by a moderator. What is in place to prevent moderators sharing Reports with their AB buddies?
The only way to ensure there is no bias at all, would be to have a separate team of mods, who can't see any usernames, just posts. Otherwise, people will read things differently.
^That's the sort of thing I mean.
Seeing 'something' happening and extrapolating from that that the reasons are malicious or identity of the 'suspect' is obvious.
I am sure that there will be more than one Moderator on any given thread at a time....
I don't doubt that there is a preception this occurs but I haven't seen it; I seen it complained about but I haven't witnessed it.
If examples could be couched in general terms, "......an Aber commented that [something] and the Moderator replied that [something else] and then it was all removed", all we would really be left with was that a suspected (?) Mod had a nasty verbal spat with an ABer. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that a.n. other Mod decided the spat was unseemly and removed it all....
The decision would still have to be explained to the Ed whichever of the 2 Mods removed it.
Jackthehat, yes, you did. //can anyone give examples of instances where this occured? //
On the other side of the coin there are those members, one in particular, who abuse, troll, insult and harass, with apparent impunity - one on a daily basis - and never an itchy zapper finger to be seen. Oh well, funny old world.
Haha! You want me to provide you with posts that have been removed? That's one way around it but magic isn’t my forte. Best talk to the Ed, jackthehat..
//And if those ///who abuse, troll, insult and harass, /// get zapped there is usually a chorus of complaint about that, too.//
I’ve never seen a chorus of complaint about those people being zapped but you’ve rather missed the point. The one in question isn’t.
I get the impression that this conversation will go around in circles so I’ve said all I have to say.
