Emojis And Text Styling Are Coming!

Exciting news for The AnswerBank community!

We're finally introducing a new feature that will allow you to use simple text styling and emojis in your questions and answers.

Express yourself better and build more impactful messages.

We've managed to grab a sneak teaser video from our Dev team:

We'll be rolling this out soon and want to assure our community members that these new features will be subject to moderation under our Site Rules.

It's good, but I wonder how long it'll be before it's abused somehow :-(

We have explored the idea to embed photos on-site but we're slightly uncomfortable because that would mean The AnswerBank would have to host the photos on our server. This opens us up to potential liability issues.

Excellent point.

There cannot be many regular and frequent posters who have not fallen foul of the inevitable misinterpretations of posts because of the restrictions of the printed word.

I have not only had some of my posts mis-read, with some alarming consequences, I have been guilty of taking humorous posts far too seriously, reading them as being serious, so an emoji here and there will certainly assist in preventing such issues in the future.

Emoji's are just faces showing emotions. If you can read a human face, you can read an emoji. Presumably there wont be any aubergines ;-)

Ah yes, I was banned from an avatar for years because I dared put a comic middle finger to the EU.

Embedding also has other potential issues as it can be used (like all input fields) to hack a site. Much easier to protect from written word.

Still text editing and emojis should help the clarity. I foresee extensive use of the 'poo' emoji. And yes no aubergines :-)

I hope so, TCL, emojis do help with interpretation, when you can't see facial expressions, tone of voice etc. At work, I can only write what is factual and accurate, being able to share opinions, is a different skill... :-)

Thanks Ed - I originally joined AB in 2002, but I must admit, when I recently popped back to AB after a good while away, I was quite surprised that there hadn't been many renovations to the site. I'm sure the new features, etc., will make posting a bit more interesting. :0)
