I have, Corby. They know. Thank you but it still happens. Well it did when I was posting as much as I once did. I am happy to name names in answer to ABSpareEd's question. :-)
I haven't noticed much difference. Then again, I don't post as often as I did in the past.

That’s been noticed, Tilly. Not that we are talking about you. ;-)
// I have been thro the last twenty threads Gness has answered, and I counted one//

That is really sad behaviour PP!
It's not encouraged and it will likely result in a tit-for-tat from those you name and any others who disagree with you which might lead to posts being deleted.

Having said that, it is up to you but it really would be better being discussed further with the EDs.
You read the answers removed Peter? Clever. ;-)

Corby. The whole site seems tit for tat now. Others may tit. I don't have to tat. :-)
I'm easily confused by stuff.
For example folk saying there's no fun any more but when quips and banter are submitted those same people often take, or fake, offence.
They may well go on to mention previous or late members and how they used to regale us with bawdy tales and thinly disguised swearing making the whole place a warm and welcoming delight for new and old members alike.
I've said before that I'm not going to put LOL after what I consider sarcasm, irony or flat out giggles and I'd just like to ley y'all know that I still won't.
If a post offends thee, pluck it out but don't suddenly get all purse-lipped and prissy if you don't get the joke, just try a little harder.
Peter's 'mimsy' is an excellent catch-all.

'smiley face but no lol'.

Carry on now. x
gness, emmie's current absence leaves me the only active named female mod here at the moment. Therefore since the mod you're complaining about is female, I assume you're talking about me - and it's not the first time you've done this.

So … just for clarity, to the best of my recollection - (the Eds will have a record) - in my time as a mod I have removed precisely one of your posts - the one where, encouraged by someone who really should know better, you told a long-term member in no uncertain terms to go away. The actual verb you used was starred out by the AB swear filter. Furthermore, apart from posts consisting of only a few lines, I rarely read your contributions so you may rest assured that you are not being targeted - not by me at least. It isn't something I do - to anyone.

If my initial assumption is wrong and you're complaining about a female mod who isn't publicly named, my apologies.

I trust that clears this up once and for all.
It's odd, I find that those (and there's a few) that moan about other ABers are often the ones who are pious, intolerant, self righteous and not beyond throwing insults and names themselves.

I have been called everything under the sun over the years. So what. Sticks and stones. I would rather people say what they fell to me at least I know where I stand so carry on.

Douglas makes a good point above too.

Ed, The site is fine to me.

I got up to the bit:
‘if he only acted like that, what a deal of money he’d draw! He should have kept upon this circuit; he’d have been very useful to me. But he don’t know what’s good for him. He is an impetuous youth. Young men are rash, very rash.’ Crummles about Nickleby leaving

this was very well done in the B+W version with Martin jarvis 1968 ish. end Chap 30 - so I needed a little rest

and thought - what can I do to cleanse my palate?
I know! examine Gness' last 20 ! Chnage G's opinion into a fact or factoid at least by inspection/examination

I note with diss-play-zeer a comment - "but ya didnt see the entries deleted, they're gone ya see!" - so there is evidence but no evidence - I see. there was once . Convinving huh

normal Maundy Thursday on AB then

I still 'aver' that the one who gets it in the neck is Gully - borne out by the evidence - Still There
Naomi' s post can be summed up - is it I abba?
( Easter - ish for those to Read the Bible)

very suitable for Maundy Thursday

Joke Joke coming up - and I have no intention of going back over Naomi's last 20 - haw haw haw

( memo to self - back to Ch 31)

"Dave and I have to be careful about posting on the same thread even if our views differ, which they sometimes do, as Deskdiary will be in calling him my lapdog and me worse. You know that, Ed."

I'm sorry, but I just find it weird, but given I'm in a minority of one, I absolutely promise I will not make any reference to it again.
someone has used "assume" when they mean 'conclude' - conlcusion is on what goes before, just to remind ABers

You read the answers removed Peter? Clever. ;-)

longest response time in history - yes I did , and found none.
G's responses werent gonna be removed and so, use them as a flag and see if there is an "answer removed"

There werent

This is 'nearest neighbour analysis' which was used in the DNA research early sixties, so er not my idea. And it turned out that Turing has used it in code breaking.
E is likely to have T as a neighbour in English and similar rules in German.
Colossus ( the big boppa) increased the chance of a paired German selected text by .... 2% - but it was enogh to give an edge

but I digress - back to ch 32
Maybe it's me, but I'm now getting more ads!
apologies abspareed, the ads only bombard me on my phone, well so it seems, cuz on my lappy its a lot better!
Hi Ed. Not made much difference to me apart from the AB donation pop up. Never had or have Ads using phone popping up or otherwise.

As for mods no difference to me I’m a good boy.

It’s good to see that the AB community are being their lovely, warm hearted selves toward each other, some things never change. Makes me feel cosy that things are normal on here.
A lack of adverts is always welcome but unfortunately there is also a lack of newcomers. This site is easy to navigate and most subjects covered for discussion, so why are there so few joining?
In my opinion one word covers this and that is trolling. No 9 site rule clearly states this is not allowed yet almost on a daily basis we are subject to this:-
" In slang, a troll is a person who posts or makes inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages online, or in real life, with the intent of provoking others into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others' perception, thus acting as a bully or a provocateur." Wikipedia

If the ABEds have a different version of trolling they have yet to tell us what it is. I can only assume it's tolerated because it creates traffic and all that brings, however it doesn't bring newcomers or if it does they don't stay very long. I believe the lackadaisical attitude to the bullying, harassment and general unpleasantness is detrimental and does nothing for what is otherwise a well run site.
agree with vulcan. When people see thugs brawlling in public, only other thugs feel like joining in. Newcomers who arrive looking for a crossword answer may stay; those in search of the News section are less likely to.

But the Ed will know how many active users the site has, against how many a year or five years ago. (However you define "active".)
I actually disagree with above. When people see thugs brawling in News as long as they don't join in it's very entertaining and if they do want to join in they know what they are getting and can cope . It's open and obvious. What I don't like - and I've seen others say the same - is the barbed, sour underhand comments from regular users trying to put others down. I have experienced it myself lots of times, funnily enough even from some on this thread. The women are the worst by miles.
If it's an ongoing problem the bouncers will withdraw privileges, otherwise folk need to accept that members are individuals and will act accordingly in most cases.

'Lighten up' should be your motto.
