With the PM himself being Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 until 2013, which could lead to him being directly culpable, I have my doubts

I, too have my doubts. There are so many separate organisations, institutions and individuals who were/are complicit in the failures to investigate and prosecute. There will be almost as many reasons for their collective inaction as there will guilty parties.Fingers will be pointed elsewhere, blame will be misdirected, minions will carry the can,...

No,  Too many heads that should be on the block - and should have been years ago.

Do you think that the recommendations of the existing inquiry should be put into effect first? The recommendations which the previous Tory government failed to put into place?

They should...and Labour have had 6 months to accelerate this but needed recent pressure to wake up. But the previous reports covered a wider range of issues bit not specifically the issue of grooming gangs nor as far as i know did they identify those who were complicit made errors or turned a blind eye

^That's what should be investigated - and rigorously.

It doesn't have to be an either /or. Why not do both ie implement the recommendations and have a public enquiry

I've said that to other half for a while now implement the recommendations from the first one and also have a public inquiry then add on any new recommendations after taht one has finished.  Starmer seemed to miss a lot when he was in charge of the CPS.

Yes they should have been put into effect long ago & the Tories were wrong in not doing so.

I fear they may hold up the Jay recommendations while having yet another long drawn out inquiry. I see no reasom why they can't do both.

Can you explain to me why the Tories did nothing about it in 14 years of power?

It is possible to do more than one thing in parallel.

"14 years" isn't correct. They did initiate the Alexis Jay inquiry which took seven years and and the findings were reported in 2022.

The main question is why nothing has been done since then?

It's obvious to all but the dumbest, this Labour party is still whitewashing this shameful period in our history.

I know most ABers want to keep their heads in the sand re child rape, that's their choice but as far as I'm concerned there is only two positions. You either stand up and call out the rapists and the rapist enablers or you just don't care, I have no time for you ''well it goes without saying''.

From my time on here I find that many ABers think it's great to type out Stephen Yaxley-Lennon to prove how clever they are and then inform everyone about his offences, the same ABers never never have time to talk about the rapists and the rapist enablers.

I, too have my doubts.

There will be almost as many reasons for their collective inaction as there will guilty parties.

Fingers will be pointed elsewhere, blame will be misdirected, minions will carry the can, evidence will be lost almost as quickly as it is uncovered - and all the while those at the top of the greasy poles will be retiring on their gold-plated pensions or moving on to the tops of other greasy poles.

It's an utter disgrace and shames us on the worlds' stage.
