Two or three weeks ago I got logged out of AB - I am usually permanently logged in on my computer - and, having forgot my password, couldn't log back in. I tried to get it reset, but got no email enabling me to do so. I sent several messages but got no more than an automated answer. Finally I have given up and re-registered under my other email address (which I don't like doing as it is a work one). Could you please tell me whether there is some technical problem stopping the password reset link being sent or something. I'd really like to go back to using my old id as I had just managed to get myself an avatar - which is what caused the problem inthe first place and I don't want to go there again! Thanks

If you are using firefox, try tools, options, security, saved passwords.
You will need a 3rd part application to do the same in Internet Explorer. IE passview for example.

I have IE8. Some time last year I got logged out and had forgotten my password (the memory is failing...) but got straight back in when I applied to have my password reset. I had cleared my cache this time as I was unable to set my avatar without doing so - would IE passview get round this? And I am curious as to why I have had no reply from my messages to AB Editor and Technical. Is this related to my browser?
Question Author
Given, by the way, that I did get auatomated replies to (most of) my messages.
He'll probably see this and respond. I don't think you can retrieve your password after you've cleared you cache...

ummmm - I hope you're right - that's what I was hoping for. And thanks to both you and TTG for your answers.
if you don't want to use a work email address, you can set up a new personal one in 10 seconds on gmail or hotmail.
You've done the right thing posting her as the Ed should help you.I dont get responses to emails either (although I did go through the correct route once with no response and resorted to posting on here and i was ticked off for being impatient lol).
I think the best bet as jno suggested is to set up a throw away email address and re-register.
Hope to see you back on as you -I dont like the thought of being someone else either:)
Question Author
Thanks jno and Dris. Actually I was avoiding the throw-away email route - brain still unable to cope with all those passwords! Work email is my own anyway, so no problems with angry bosses, just like to keep work and personal separate where possible. Still hoping for an answer from the Editor, as I'm concerned there may be some glitch in the system that is stopping me (and potentially others) getting passwords reset. If I get an answer I hope to be back as me - complete with avatar - otherwise I shall have to keep this name!
Hi -I had a glitch and thats why I needed help from Ed -email prob as well as it happens. They did sort it out for me when I posted here although I had to take a schoolgirl telling off at my age although I only posted here as a last resort when they didnt respond after a couple of weeks of trying to get it sorted using the 'correct' procedure.
Im sure they will help you but might smack your botty :)))
Question Author
I hope not!! I'm a bit long in the tooth for schoolgirl treatment. After all (pretty please, Editor) it has been a matter of weeks now, and although I'm not the most patient of people, I feel two or three weeks is long enough to wait for an answer. Hence my posting here.
You'll have to be patient. The Ed is probably briefing the moderators, stay safe out there and all that...
hill street blues ! need to be patient.
Authentic/Newsdesk -love it !!!!!
(jealous?)
Not jealous, Dris. If I'm right in thinking who they are, answering questions like robots is ok for AB, but street and personality wise, forget it. That's being kind!
Authentic;)

Still waiting patiently...

Ah, Hill Street Blues. Now that was a reason to stay in for the evening!
