Spammers, Reporters and Bullies
203 Answers
Good Day everyone, hope we're well.
I wonder if we can discuss and agree the best way to deal with spammers?
The Editors do their best to get to reports as soon as they come in. Those which have come through today have been picked off asap.
I would suggest though that those who spot spammers avoid posting on their threads. By posting on their threads - even to say "reported" pushes the post back into the "latest posts" box which encourages others to look and comment.
While this is of little benefit to the spammers (they'll be gone shortly after anyway) it is a bit like forcing ad breaks into everyone else's AnswerBank viewing.
The following is mostly directed at the CB crowd:
There also seems to be a habit of some users of trying to "shout down" anyone who reports - something along the lines of "no one likes a grass".
This is nonsense. We provide functions to keep the site free of trolls and banned users. Use them.
The only time "no one likes a grass" has weight is in prison. If you are currently serving time in jail, I can only suggest a visit here: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Law/ to see where you went wrong.
I noticed a rash of bullying bubbled up last night. If you've found your account suspended, and you were involved, please don't contact us about it - it is permanent.
I hope you have a good weekend.

DE...
when the new format AB was introduced all users could close their own threads so no more post would be accepted and of course, due to the nature of some people, this was soon abused resulting in people posting their thoughts and opinions of other users or topics and instantly closing the threads. So it was removed.
The Ed still has the ability to close a thread to stop any more posts, Which he does when it's appropriate for the thread to remain for people to see it but no more comments are needed.

Hi jno... ;-) I didn't in any way suggest that B00 was on any different cigarettes to those which I smoke. I'll leave it to her to tell me if they are Embassy No.1 and to take me to task if she feels I am being impolite to her.
Obviously Chuck you know that I live in the Swansea area.(Gower) and there is an abundance of Spammers, Reporters and Bullies in this part of the UK; along with Fixers......However, I am sorry that I can't really help matters..:-)

Morning all,
Seems a lot of users quite like the rules...until it applies to them.
Chuck is correct; I have suspended some users permanently so their posts are still available to see. A banning would have removed their posts.
I've just reviewed the weekend suspensions by the weekend Ed, some are back, others are not. Some need a little longer to cool off.
All the best,

Does anyone know who has permanently been suspended (as opposed to being banned).
If I read it correctly, and interpreted it correctly, there are at least 3 penalties now for breaking some of the more serious Site Rules, there's a permanent ban and everything posted vanishes, a permanent suspension, and everything stays but the ability to carry on using that ID is lost, or a temporary suspension that last however long the ed sees fit to prolong the suspension.
I don't know what ummmm said to be suspended, I didn't see anything too serious myself, I did personally get abit aggravated at one user but I got bored with their deluded whitterings and left it to others to argue the issue.
So, who's gone then?

Hi society! Yes I gather, but there are two types of suspension, one permanent but posts stay and one temporary and the suspension is lifted after a cooling off period and a review by the ed.
The other thought is that over a weekend, if a suspension happens, is it always temporary until the Monday morning review?
No idea why I am dwelling on this I am supposed to be watching a dvd!
