Actually, tobacco advertising was of almost iconic proportions back in the early 60s. Who of a certain age can have forgotten: "You're never alone with a Strand" and, "Today's cigarette is a Bristol!"
I remember when I was at school (about 14 years of age) and we had a teacher who used to smoke a pipe. One day he passed me and he took big drag on his pipe. I couldn`t resist quoting from the latest ad on the TV. I said "Oh, Condor". That didn`t go down too well. I got a right telling off.
Although probably erased from the collective memory by the passage of time the phrases:
"Were you truly wafted here from Paradise?"
"Nah, Luton Airport!" ,were on everyone's lips in those days.
