i am finding it really difficult to understand this ad (it's the one where the girl called ellie is telling a woman she is no good, and that someone abuses her and makes her do things she doesn't wan to do. But what on earth is the boy not wanting to play his recorder about? Are they comparing playing the recorder to abuse (there would be a joke there somewhere if it wasn't such a sensitive subject)
sorry, but even your explanation does not make me understand it :( Do barnardos support children who are shy of playing the recorder at a school concert?
The kids have no self confidence coz they are led to believe they are at fault for their abuse. The adults are building the childrens trust; why Barnados request donations.
In the 1960’s changes in legislation meant that the number of children received by Barnardo's was decreasing and so a commitment was made to cut down on residential services and develop new work with disabled children and those with emotional and behavioural problems.
To reflect this, the charity changed its name in 1966 from Dr Barnardo's Homes to Dr Barnardo's.
In 1988 the organisation changed its name from Dr Barnardo's to Barnardo's to reflect the contrast with its Victorian past and the last traditional style home closed in 1989.
I remember my sister and I having little Dr Barnardo's houses. There was a slot in the roof and we saved money in them and give it to the charity. This was in the 50's.
It's about getting children to do what they don't want to do. The girl is being forced to do something that is obviously wrong, whereas the little boy is encouraged to do something he doesn't really want to do, but won't hurt him.
