Begging Adverts

I've noticed this year every other advert is an appeal to give money, £19 for a meal and a shower for a homeless person, £22 for someone to keep Mabel company at Christmas, do they think we're made of money?

It's the same every year. I hope that these adverts encourage some people to give a thought to their alone neighbours this year.

Not only at Christmas, but a lot of people are tied up with their own families and it's easy to forget the neighbour, or assume they are with their own family.

Christmas is a horrid time for lonely folk with all of the distractions and facilities closed. Even the routine of the tv schedule is out of kilter. Also many alone folk who think nothing of popping round to the neighbour for a cuppa think twice over Christmas for fear of intruding.

I don't think they are only at Christmas, although there might be more now because many people choose to give to charities at this time.

I'm sure someone who would maybe think of giving say £10 would think it would not be enough so don't give them anything.

I give to my own chosen Charities si I'm not swayed but I think some may well lose out by doing these adverts.

I think that people like to have an idea of what their money buys...especially how small an amount will actually do something. I am not sure whether charities get a reduction on airtime at this time of year but I think that they are trying to tap into people’s spirit of giving at this time of year.

Every year, the is 'begging' on TV, mainly who's parents are too lazy to work, and wait to get everything free, using sad pictures of their children.

I have seen this going on for over 50 plus years, its about time, the water problem has been sorted, (a you girl walks a long distance for water, what's her father doing ?, probable making more kids, or sitting o his backside, waiting for the west to do his job).
As for these migrants, who are flooding the place ( because they are being bombed). I was in the London Blitz, and we didn't star running away.
And shouldn't the young men be back fighting for their country, instead of running away, like a load of cowards ?

splutter! 19squid for a meal and a shower? Why use The Dorchester. I could eat and shower for a week for that.

Svejk - totally agree, that's what I always think, why does it cost so much? Cos most of it goes on 'admin fees' that's why.

The current Salvation Army campaign suggests £19 for a Christmas box of food for a family , not sure which Charity the OP is quoting.

Before you give to a charity look them up on the web to find out how much of their income is spent on administration costs...some well known ones spend most of their income on staff salaries..

I have just got an e-mail from Andrex kindly telling me that 1 in 6 people have not got access to a clean, safe toilet. I haven't got access to an en-suite bathroom or upstairs loo come to that.
How much foreign aid does it take to build a Khazi fgs.?
We don't have much access to public toilets here in the UK either!!

Oh yes that campaign is run in conjunction with Unicef.
