There is currently a TV series showing on two different nights and channels; one recorded entirely in Welsh, the other entirely in English.

I'm curious as to how it is done. I am guessing they film one scene in Welsh then immediately do it again in English.

Anyone know for sure?

Maybe they use dAI.

it's dubbed but why would you bother? no one speaks Welsh not even the Welsh.

I don't know what series BARRY is referring to but there have been other series filmed separately in English and Welsh for broadcasts in English and Welsh.

Question Author

It's not dubbed.

It's The One That Got Away, a BBC crime drama

No-one speaks TTT. (Apart from TTT and a few other oddballs in the wannabe dark web comminity).

TORATORATORA is clearly bored so it's best to ignore his post and stick to the question.

Didn't they film Hinterland in Welsh then in English? Or am i misremembering?

Rubbish!

Most schools in Isle of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire are Welsh medium schools. In Gwynedd, for example, education is delivered in Welsh in 92 out of 97 schools.

With regard to 'Cleddau' (a.k.a. 'The One That Got Away'), IMDb says that it was filmed twice:

He's trying to get a reaction so best to ignore him.

Thanks everyone. Hope the series is as good as Hinterland.

The TV series'Keeping Faith' - also known as Un Bore Mercher (One Wednesday Morning) was filmed concurrently in both Welsh and English and was the most popular show on BBC Wales for over 25 years.

Question Author

I enjoyed Keeping Faith, too

"no one speaks Welsh not even the Welsh."

They speak it, but they don't understand it. 😄

Welsh is a beautiful language. It took me weeks of practice to say Pontcysyllte without spitting 😁

I was disappointed though that popty ping is not the real Welsh word for microwave.

"Most schools in Isle of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire are Welsh medium schools. It's 50% English anyway, I've watched the welsh channel and they just don't have enought words. Teach them klingon that's more use.
