I don't think it was anything like that. What I've heard is that he had leukaemia and his dying wish was to be on TV... Seems kinda farfetched having written it now, though lol.

yes its true he did commit suicide after the advert after being threatened to be stabbed by a bunch of youths if his advert was not taken of the air.
