Quote from Leigh Journal:-
"roll your cap grandad" TV ad puzzler set by reader Pat Riding last week prompted readers to rack their brains - and they came up with two answers: Heinz tomato soup which was in the majority - or the PG Tips monkeys. I'll settle for the soup."

On here there are various answers like:-
Cigars - Capstain cigarettes - Jewson builders merchant - Butter etc.
I will get back if I can find a better answer.

Absolutely not tomato soup or PG tips - it was a campaign by the dairy industry for real butter. Nor was it Grandad! The ad went:
- Two giggling schoolgirls are in the kitchen, where an old gentleman is sitting at the table...
Girl 1 - "Uncle Stan, Uncle Stan, Trisha's dying to see you roll your cap"
US - "No she isn't"
Girl 1 - "Yes, she is. I've told 'er all about it. And we've baked you your favourite for tea. Baked spuds with real butter"
US - "Baked spuds with real butter! You can't beat real butter! Ok, go on then. Pass me me cap!"
and he proceeds to roll his cap from one hand to another across his chest, to which the girls break into further fits of giggles.
US - "And round the back!" and rolls it across agin, but this time leans forward to roll it across the back of his neck, to even more giggles.
The chap who played Uncle Stan became a minor celebrity in the NorthWest - I recall him being interviewed on Piccadilly Radio.
