Whats it all about?
There is an advert (think its for Nationwide) where a bloke is on the mobile phone leaving a message for (?) talking about arranging a mortgage, then he gets home and the wife(?) is sitting at the table with an older couple, I have seen it several times and still can't work out who he is talking to, as I thought he was leavng a message for his wife, but he says to whoever it is that she is going out with the 'old duffers' then he gets home and she is there. Or it is just me missing the plot?

Then he tells himself that his wife is out with the 'old duffers' tonight so it's a microwave curry for one, then he gets in and realises that his wife and the 'old duffers' have heard everything. I think it's funny.
Thanks for explaining it and I see now what is going on, but I still think it is very strange that he should be talking to 'himself' - it certainly didn't seem clear to me! I can understand the bit about tellling his boss, but why should he need to tell 'himself' that his wife was out, and that he was now home? Some adverts are more complicated than the programmes.
