I think that the ever-tightening rules on what the advertising censors will allow are responsible. Many of the funny adverts from the past would not now be allowed. They can't make alcohol look pleasurable these days, for instance. And it only takes a few telephone objections for an ad to be pulled - look at that hilarious Christmas ad for Mr Kipling cakes, which had to be taken off the air. In that case, the objections were not from people who had found it offensive to send up a school nativity play, but from those who thought that OTHERS would find it offensive.
Didn't see the Mr Kipling ad, but the Grolsch ad with the alien that can;t blow his bottle properly. That's funny.
Oooh! And the one for washing powder when the bird really needs a poo and does it on the clean sheet!
I find the ads with James Nesbitt funny."Life is good, life is fine,I've got a girl+no one likes you" And the one where he cuts his nieces hair, makes a mess of it and pretend to shout at the hairdresser! Yellow Pages.
Any Peter Kay ad is funny. At the other end of the spectrum we have Michael Winner.....argh!!
